DRT Contracting recently completed a comprehensive ditch elimination and drainage improvement project for a Northeast Ohio property experiencing ongoing flooding and water-management problems.
The objective was straightforward: eliminate the problematic open ditch, create a reliable underground drainage path, and give the property owner a cleaner and more usable property without sacrificing proper stormwater flow.
Solving a Persistent Flooding Problem
Standing water and poorly functioning roadside ditches can create problems well beyond an unattractive yard. Improper drainage can contribute to erosion, saturated soil, difficult property maintenance, and recurring flooding.
For this project, DRT Contracting excavated the existing drainage area and installed a properly designed underground drainage system before restoring the surrounding grade.
✔️ Existing ditch excavation and preparation
✔️ Underground drainage pipe installation
✔️ Proper stone bedding and support
✔️ Culvert and drainage connections
✔️ Backfilling and grading
✔️ Final property restoration
Ditch Elimination Without Eliminating Drainage
Simply filling an existing ditch can create a larger water problem. A successful ditch elimination project requires maintaining a dependable path for stormwater to travel through the property.
DRT Contracting approaches these projects from the ground up, considering elevation, water flow, pipe placement, grading, and long-term drainage performance before completing the surface restoration.
A Cleaner, More Usable Property
The completed project provides the property owner with improved drainage while eliminating the maintenance and inconvenience associated with the previous open ditch.
It’s another example of how proper excavation and drainage work can solve an existing problem while improving the overall usability and appearance of a property.
